Oral hygiene

Oral hygiene

For gum problems such as bleeding or receding gums, bad breath, or tartar buildup. Also preventively to prevent cavities and gum disease.

What do we do?

Our experienced practitioners remove tartar and plaque with modern equipment to keep your teeth healthy. If necessary, we provide brushing instructions and advice on oral care, and we treat inflamed gums to prevent further damage. After cleaning, we polish your teeth with a special paste and a soft brush. This makes the tooth surface smooth, removes deposits, and helps prevent plaque from adhering quickly.

Oral hygiene

Good oral hygiene is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and molars.

Many dental problems, such as gum inflammation and cavities, can be prevented by regular check-ups and professional cleaning.

During the professional cleaning appointment, the teeth are cleaned and checked for any dental problems.

When is an oral hygiene treatment useful?

An oral hygiene treatment is recommended for:

• Bleeding, red, or swollen gums

• Bad breath

• Receding gums

• Rapidly forming tartar

• Loose teeth or molars

• Regularly recurring cavities

Even without complaints, a periodic cleaning helps to prevent problems.

The treatment

During the treatment, the dentist or dental hygienist assesses the health of the gums and thoroughly cleans the teeth.

The treatment may consist of:

• Removal of tartar and plaque

• Cleaning under the gums

• Polishing teeth and fillings

• Fluoride treatment

• Personal advice on oral care

If there are signs of gingivitis or periodontitis, a follow-up treatment may be advised.

Laser technology

We use laser technology for some oral hygiene treatments. This technology can be used to support the treatment of gum problems.

The laser makes it possible to specifically reduce bacteria in and around the gums and to treat the gums in a controlled manner. This can contribute to a comfortable course of treatment and good healing of the gums.

Laser support is always applied after assessment by the dentist and tailored to your personal situation.

Benefits of laser technology in oral hygiene

• Targeted treatment of the gums: the laser can be used precisely in and around the gums.

• Reduction of bacteria: laser support can help reduce bacteria involved in gum inflammation.

• Comfortable treatment: many patients experience the treatment as pleasant and less stressful.

• Support for healing: the laser can contribute to a controlled treatment process and recovery of the gums.

• Supplement to professional cleaning: laser technology is used as support in addition to the regular oral hygiene treatment.

Costs and reimbursement

Oral hygiene treatments are generally not covered by basic insurance. With additional dental insurance, these costs are often (partially) reimbursed.

For children up to 18 years of age, the costs are usually reimbursed from the basic insurance.

We are happy to provide you with clarity about the costs in advance.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Oral Hygiene

How often should I schedule an appointment for oral hygiene?

This depends on your oral health, but on average 1 to 2 times per year. For gum problems, an oral hygiene appointment may be needed more often.

Does a teeth cleaning hurt?

Usually not, but if your gums are inflamed, they may be sensitive. We can use anesthesia if necessary.

Can I prevent tartar myself?

Regular brushing and flossing helps, but tartar can still build up and must be professionally removed.

Is the treatment performed by the dentist or dental hygienist?

The oral hygiene treatment is performed by the dentist.

Is this treatment reimbursed by the health insurer?

This depends on your health insurance. For adults, it is usually covered by the supplementary insurance.
